Alfred Von Kolnitz served as athletic director for the College of Charleston
in the 1930’s...he played baseball at CofC as well ... he
also played three seasons of major league baseball (1914 and 1915 with the Cincinnati Reds and 1916 with the Chicago White
Sox) ... he played in 115 career games with 48 hits in 226 at bats (.212 average) ... his 12th inning single versus The Citadel
in the spring of 1911 gave CofC the win over its rival ... he later transferred to play football and baseball at South Carolina
and captained the USC football team in 1912 leading the Gamecocks to a 5-2-1 record ... he was enshrined into the state of
South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 1960 ... “Fritz” died at his home in Mt. Pleasant on March 18, 1948, at
age 54 ..
